What is Fascial Stretching? Does It Really Work?

What Is Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial Stretch Therapy, also known as FST is pain-free assisted stretching that was originally used by professional athletes to optimize their performance. Now it is helping thousands of people relieve chronic pain, muscle tension and mobility restrictions. Fascial stretching focuses on your fascia (the connective tissue that holds your muscles, bones and joints together). Instead of stretching isolated muscles, we aim to target multiple lines of fascia at a time. This comprehensive approach not only provides immediate pain relief and a drastic increase in mobility, it also relieves anxiety by resetting the nervous system.

Short answer, YES! Stretch therapy techniques increase flexibility in both the short and long term. The range of motion in a given area typically increases immediately after a fascial stretch therapy session. However, when you regularly combine one of our fascial stretch massage sessions, RMT + Fascial Stretch  with continued stretching at home at least two to three times per week, the range of motion increases become more permanent. Connective tissue structures and resting muscle length will adapt to the stretch therapy and maintain improved flexibility. Long-term flexibility and improved mobility is the goal of stretch therapy. As such, you must consistently do your stretching routine to see meaningful improvements. Stretch therapy increases range of motion, improves movement quality, and reduces injury risk.
